With the new privacy settings and policy from Facebook on it’s way (january 1st) it is a good thing to make a backup of everything you shared on Facebook.
Maybe you will consider closing your account in the future, but you might want to remember the good times you had.
So make a backup of everything you shared.
And of course, just like with LinkedIn and Twitter, there is an option for that.
First you go to the menu on the top right and choose settings.
Then you see, on the bottom of the new screen, an option called Download a copy of your Facebook data
Once you click it, you will have to log in (for security reasons) and you will get this message
Click on Start my Archive and Facebook will start gathering all the stuff that you’ve put online.
Again, click on Start My Archive
And now wait while the servers of Facebook are making overtime.
After a while, in my case 10 minutes, you will get a notification that your data is ready to be downloaded.
Just click Download Archive.
Of course you will have to give your password again and then the download starts.
Mine is a 292MB zip file.
After unzipping I get a directory containing the following files
By opening the index.html in my browser I can browse through all my data. And there is a lot!
On the first page you can see which pages you like and which apps are connected with your Facebook account. Have fun browsing through all that you have done!
